Telling the story of Scotland’s world-famous Hogmanay festivities celebrated annually on 31st December, A Night on Earth in Scotland captures the universal joy of celebrating the change of year.
This seasonal release is a collaboration with acclaimed Japanese-French illustrator Erica Dorn, whose artwork has featured in director Wes Anderson’s films.
The single malt is presented in unique packaging to provide a special unboxing experience and Dorn’s playful abstract illustrations are inspired by the historic fire rituals dominant in New Year celebrations around the world.
"It's trying to find the perfect balance between control and allowing organic accidents to happen. So up to a point, you're very precise in your cutting, you have exact shapes, but then you can take those shapes and sort of lay them out and see what happens when they overlap."

With the exceptional photography of Marcel Juan and the handmade wood pieces crafted by Marina Salazar, we build this photo session that defined the whole campaign. The usage of wood printed pieces brings Erica Dorn’s illustrations to life.
The most relevant piece of this campaign was a 33” film which bringed the pictures of Marcel Juan to life. In collaboration with Finesse Films Productions we built more than 900 different pieces recreating three different worlds: white at the beginning, red, blue and multicolour as a colophon.
This Making Of shows the process of creating this film. The effort of an incredible team without which it would not have been possible to create the worlds that the packaging reflects.
Thanks to the success of this campaign, The Macallan asked us to continue the campaign for other bottles with Erica Dorn motifs. So, we made a series of visuals that would appear both in print and on social networks.
Finally we decided to bring these posters to life through digital illustration. Together with the exceptional Polish studio Blublu Studios we made a series of videos that would be released for specific holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and Lunar New year (Chinese New year).
